May marks Lupus Awareness Month, a time for organizations to join in raising public awareness about this frequently misunderstood disease, lupus.
Banana Peel, a concept store known for being the first of its kind in bringing trendy and comfortable flip-flops to the Philippines, and Hope for Lupus Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to promote the early detection and proper treatment of lupus by increasing awareness about the rare condition have come together this year to introduce a special limited edition of flip flop collection in their “Step Up for Lupus” campaign.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that impacts millions of people across the globe, many of whom are women in their 20s to 30s, although it can also affect men, the elderly, and children.
Some symptoms of the disease include rashes, unexplained fever, joint pains, and hair loss. Nevertheless, even with these signs, lupus is still not well known, and lots of individuals face misdiagnosis due to insufficient awareness.
The main purpose of this joint venture is to generate funds to support the Hope for Lupus Foundation’s efforts in assisting lupus patients, enhancing public knowledge about the illness, and promoting their advocacy through different projects.
The “Step Up for Lupus” campaign will officially launch on May 3, 2023, at Banana Peel TriNoma Branch. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the collective effort in building a world without lupus. Visit Banana Peel physical stores, or head over to www.bananapeel.net and Banana Peel online platforms to purchase a pair that will bring a difference to the lupus community, not just during Lupus Awareness Month but throughout the year.
A PAIR OF HOPE
Since 2002, Banana Peel, a pioneering flip-flop concept store in the Philippines, has been committed to its promise to address the need for comfortable and trendy flip-flops in the local market. Along with that, they have also been actively contributing to society by supporting non-profit organizations and charitable institutions to make a meaningful impact throughout the years.
One of the partnerships they have worked on was with the Unilab Foundation’s spin-off program, Project Inclusion Network, which aims to build a more inclusive nation where Persons with Disabilities (PWD) can also be productive citizens of our society.
Banana Peel funded an art commission event and used five Persons with Disability (PWD) artists’ paintings as designs for the flip-flops, launching the “Project Inclusion” Collection.
This partnership sparks hope and inspiration for a member of the Board of Trustees of the Project Inclusion Network, who is also the President and Founder of Hope for Lupus Foundation, Atty. Emmeline Aglipay- Villar to collaborate with Banana Peel and to work together for the lupus community.
Villar is a lupus warrior herself. At 25, she was diagnosed with lupus, and she bravely turned her fear and weakness into a source of hope where people like her can have a support system in their fight against the mysterious lifelong condition. This is the reason why she established the organization.
Fast forward to today, Banana Peel and Hope for Lupus Foundation are working together as they set to launch a special flip-flop collection this May 3, 2023, coinciding with Lupus Awareness Month at Banana Peel TriNoma Branch.
The “Hope for Lupus” Collection includes ladies’ and men’s styles with unique designs that honor the fortitude and strength of lupus fighters.
There is no known cure for lupus. However, it can be managed and controlled. With your support, you can be part of the collective effort to provide vital attention to the disease and empower those affected by this rare condition.
